THE MEANING OF THE LOGO

The logo represents a company’s commitment to respecting the strict environmental standards set by “Made Green in Italy”, the voluntary national scheme for the evaluation and communication of the environmental footprint of products. The scheme is governed by ITALIAN DECREE No. 56 of 21 March 2018, implementing Italian Law No. 221 of 28 December 2015

CERTIFICATION CRITERIA

To earn the right to display the “Made Green in Italy” logo, a product must:

  1. Be made in Italy.
  2. Meet specific sustainability requirements throughout the product’s entire lifecycle, from the production of the raw materials to its ultimate disposal.
  3. Satisfy analysis under the European Union’s Product Environmental Footprint (PEF) methodology.

This high-quality olive oil is packaged in half-litre bottles.

This unique product has been created in full compliance with the criteria of the Italian Ministry of the Environment and Energy Security’s “Made Green in Italy” programme, thus guaranteeing a low environmental impact throughout its entire lifecycle.

EVALUATION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

The company has conducted a study in order to evaluate the environmental impact of its extra-virgin olive oil throughout its entire lifecycle, including the following stages:

1. Growing and Harvesting the Olives

  • The olives are grown mainly in the region of Custonaci.

  • All the agricultural holdings within the supply chain are certified for organic production.

2. Crushing

  • The olives are crushed at the Orobelice S.r.l. and Manfredi Barbera & Figli S.p.A. mills in the province of Trapani.

  • The Manfredi Barbera mill uses an experimental plant with four different systems for milling olives.

3. Production and Packaging

The olive oil produced is packaged at the Manfredi Barbera & Figli S.p.A. plant.

4. Distribution

The packaged olive oil is distributed both in Italy and abroad.

RESULTS OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT

The product achieved excellent results in the following impact categories:

  • Climate Change: 48.38 µPt
  • Land Use: 2.28 µPt
  • Impoverishment of Resources, Water: 17.18 µPt


The total environmental impact is
62.84 µPt, placing the olive oil in performance class A under the “Made Green in Italy” national voluntary scheme.

The EVO oil made by Manfredi Barbera & Figli S.p.A., certified in accordance with the “Made Green in Italy” scheme, releases less than 50% of the emissions set as the maximum limit for use of the logo under the rules of the scheme.
